You’re buying a house with home security alarms
A new house may come with an existing security system. All the devices work, are installed in the right spaces, and are ready to go. In this case, just pick up the phone to call and start a new monitoring contract. A Vivint expert will still come out to make sure there are no usability problems, and they might offer options on where you should replace bad outdated components. It's a quick visit, and you can get your alarm monitoring set up without worrying about any new devices -- unless you get some new devices.
The outgoing owners can give an existing Vivint contract to you for a nominal set-up fee to make the process simpler. If the owners downsize to a condo or smaller home, transferring the Vivint contract may be a condition of the sale.
You need to move and take your home security devices with you
You might need to bring along your favorite smart devices with you to your new house when you move. It should be fairly easy to accomplish, as most alarms and smart devices are portable. You can take down each alarm or camera yourself or call a Vivint installer to come and take care of everything. Then our installers will hang the same components -- and any smart services you need to add -- in the new home. The home security contract will remain the same.
